Grimes and Elon Musk have once again made headlines, but this time it’s not for their space ambitions or electric car innovations. The couple has announced a change in their daughter’s name from “X Æ A-Xii” to “Y.” Grimes shared a photo of her daughter on Twitter and Instagram, along with an explanation that the government would not recognize the last name, which included a symbol.

The new name “Y” is pronounced as “Why,” which has caused a stir on social media, with many people speculating about the reason behind the name change. Some have joked that the couple is now questioning their decision to name their child with a symbol, while others have suggested that “Y” is short for “Why not?”

This is not the first time the couple has had to change the name of one of their children to comply with Californian law. The spelling of their two-year-old son’s name was also altered from “X Æ A-Xii” to include only letters.

Grimes and Elon Musk have been together since May 2018 and welcomed their daughter in December 2021 via surrogacy. Despite confirming their breakup in 2022, Grimes has referred to Musk as her best friend and the love of her life.

The couple has always been known for their unconventional choices. Still, this latest change in their daughter’s name has sparked a debate about the limits of creativity and personal expression in naming children. Some argue that unique names can empower children and reflect their parents’ inventions, while others believe it can cause unnecessary confusion and hinder their future success.

Regardless of opinions, it seems that Grimes and Elon Musk are determined to march to the beat of their drum, and the world eagerly awaits to see what they will do next.

Canadian musician Grimes and entrepreneur Elon Musk have changed the name of their daughter from “X Æ A-Xii” to “Y,” which is pronounced “Why.” The couple, who welcomed their daughter in December 2021 via surrogacy, had initially named her using a combination of letters, numbers, and symbols that were difficult to pronounce and raised eyebrows. However, the government did not accept the name due to its unconventional format.

Grimes shared a photo of their daughter on Twitter and Instagram, explaining that they had changed her name. The couple has also changed the spelling of their two-year-old son’s name to comply with Californian law. The state requires that characters only use the 26 letters of the English alphabet and allow for apostrophes and hyphens.

Their daughter’s name changed after Grimes and Musk confirmed their breakup in 2022. However, Grimes referred to Musk as her best friend and the love of her life. Musk is the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, known for his eccentric behavior and controversial statements.

Grimes, whose real name is Claire Boucher, is a musician, visual artist, and music video director. She and Musk were first linked in May 2018 and made their public debut as a couple at the 2018 Met Gala.

While the couple’s decision to change their daughter’s name may surprise some, it is not uncommon for parents to alter their child’s name after birth. Sometimes, parents may choose a name before meeting their child and then change their mind once they get to know them better. In other cases, parents may regret their initial choice of name.

Regardless of the reason, the decision to change a child’s name is a personal one and should be respected. With their daughter officially named “Y,” Grimes and Musk can move forward with their family and focus on their respective careers.
